Pops and I Keeping the Tempo,
1941-2011 - 2053, Cycles, Patterns,
Mark Making, and Pathways.
A performance piece in a show entitled Chasing Shadows curated by Vincent Ramos, which was a night of performances in homage to Horace McCoy’s book, “They Shoot Horses Don’t They.” My performance, Pops and I keeping the tempo 1941-2011-2053, Cycles, Patterns, Mark Making and Pathways, was 30 minutes long, in where I attached a piece of graphite to my father’s old metronome from the 60’s and held a piece of paper to the top to make a single mark. The metronome’s tempo was set to a 1935 hit song Chasing Shadows by the Dorsey Brothers. I attempted to find equilibrium in my body to where every time the metronome swung back and forth it would hit the piece of paper I was holding at the right space to make a mark. The piece is about mistakes, pathways and the repetitive pattern in our lives of consumption and way of life. Is time structured in patterns, where we are seeking balance or actually seizing moments?
